This gorgeous blue gemstone comes from just one place on Earth: the Dominican Republic, nestled in the heart of the Caribbean.

Found in the volcanic mountains of the Barahona region, Larimar is a rare blue variety of the mineral pectolite. It formed naturally within volcanic rock over countless years.

Although the stone was known locally before then, Larimar gained recognition in 1974 when Miguel Méndez and Norman Rilling rediscovered it.

And here's a little piece of history we love!

The name Larimar combines Lari, from Méndez's daughter Larissa, and mar, the Spanish word for sea.
